Remember... “Energy is Yours--For the Savings”!!

Tip #1 Lower your Thermostat and Enjoy "2 for 1" Savings - Heating and Cooling your home accounts for about 60% of your energy costs. You’ll save 2% on your heating bill for every 1 degree Celsius you lower your thermostat. Install a programmable thermostat with built-in timer to automatically reduce your heat at night and when you are away. YOUR ENERGY SAVINGS WILL PAY FOR THE COST OF THE THERMOSTAT IN THE FIRST YEAR.

Tip #2 Stop the Drafts and Leaks and Save up to 25% - By stopping the cold air drafts and leaks you can reduce your home heating costs by as much as 25%. For maximum results, seal around windows, doors, baseboards, attic hatches, electrical outlets and switches. Cold and windy days are the best time to check for air leaks in your home. With a little effort, you can save big on your heating bills and make your home more comfortable at the same time.

Tip #3 Insulate from Top to Bottom and SAVE up to 30% - Using proper insulation in your house attic and basement can reduce your heating and cooling costs as much as 30%! Adding thermal insulation slows heat from escaping from your home in the winter and from entering your home in the summer. If not already done, make sure you add home insulation to your “To-Do” list and save energy for years to come.

Tip #4: Insulate Hot Water Tank Pipes and SAVE up to 9%! - Insulate the first 3 feet of hot and cold water pipes at your water tank and save up to 9% on your water heating costs. You can save up to 80% on water heating cost by switching your machine dial to cold and leaving it there! Your clothes will also last longer, as hot water shrinks, fades and wears them out quicker. Switch to cold water, and clean your clothes without cleaning out your bank account and still look good.

Tip #6: Use Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs and Save up to 75%! Compact fluorescent lights produce the same amount of light for one quarter of the energy costs. They last 8 times longer and now come in a variety of shapes and sizes to fit existing indoor and outdoor light fixtures. Replace your old incandescent bulbs today with new compact fluorescent lights and see your true energy savings come to light...

Tip #7: Air Dry Your Dishes and Save up to 10%!
You can save up to 10% of your dishwasher's energy cost by opening its door and letting your dishes air dry. Many models feature economy settings that bypass drying dishes with heat. Also wait until your dishwasher has a full load before you wash. Two half loads use TWICE as much energy as one full load. Open the door to energy savings with this simple step.

Tip #8: Cut out Your Standby Energy Loss and Save up to 60%
TV’s, VCR’s, DVD’s and audio equipment account for up to 60% of “standby” electricity losses in your home. Even when not in use, equipment continues to use electricity. Small changes can add up to BIG savings in electricity costs.

Tip #11: It’s All in the “Timing” for You to SAVE Up to 100%
Use automatic timers and sensors to turn off electricity waste because when your lights are off, you save 100%!!
